Why Control Phosphates, Organics And Metals

Here are the basics to why we want to control phosphates, Organics and Metals in recreational water.

#1 – Phosphates – They are the nutrient for algae, when we reduce the presence of phosphates, algae has no nutrient to live on so limits its existence.
#2 – Organics – anything carbon based in the water. Example – urea, plant life, bather load, suntan lotion, body oils, “White Fly“, etc.
#3 – Metals – including calcium can when uncontrolled slow down the ability for Enzymes to work properly. All three cause chlorine demand, and can when untreated cause “Critical Mass”, meaning chlorine can no longer meet the demand and chlorine can no longer sanitize the water properly.
